Spring Update

Monday, April 15, 2013 6:00 PM Posted by Todd Duwel

Dear Friend,

During the past three years, through your compassion and awareness, the Brian Hafer Foundation has donated nearly $40,000 to its bene?ciaries to fund initiatives commensurate with its mission and purpose.

Through your compassion and awareness, thousands of public school children will now learn the Nine Core Values sponsored by the First Tee affiliates; and will now learn the Core Values embraced by Girls on the Run. Both entities are partners of the Foundation. Through your compassion and awareness, thousands of dollars have been raised to fund programs designed to prevent and confront alcohol and drug abuse. Through your compassion and awareness , strategic partnerships have been forged with like-minded entities in an effort to circle our amorphous adversary. The Foundation counts Secret Smiles of Dayton, Wernle’s Children’s Home, We Care Arts, Father Martin’s Ashley Treatment Center, Arms of Hope, and the South Dayton Coalition as valued friends and partners.

More can be done. Each year, our funding levels have increased, but we are always looking for ways to grow resources so that we may help more individuals. This year our goal is to crack the six figure threshold. Challenging? Absolutely; but with your help, we believe it possible.

We look forward to a wonderful 2013 campaign, and hope to see you at one of our many events this year. Please look for the Foundation mailings in upcoming weeks and make plans to attend.

Christmas Joy

Dear Friend,

At the North Pole, Santa and his Elves are diligently applying their magical talents to developing an unparalleled Christmas Golf presentation for the Miami Valley Country Club. Santa and the Elves are calling the presentation, Christmas Joy, an Evening with Friends.

After checking his list twice and knowing their is much to do this Christmas Season, Santa has entrusted the Brian Hafer Foundation with the execution of Christmas Joy.

Though honored, the Foundation realizes the enormity of the presentation and has asked the First Tee and We Care Art to join them in this unique opportunity. The First Tee impacts the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promotes healthy choices through golf. We Care Arts, a fellow non-profit delivers its mission of assisting disabled individuals through its many arts programs and initiatives. Collectively, we are proud to assist individuals throughout the community that deserve and need attention and concern. Please join The Brian Hafer Foundation, The First Tee, and We Care Arts as we share a night with Santa and good friends and seek to deliver a little Christmas Joy this season.

2012’s early season footprint...

♦ On March 19, 2012, the Foundation hosted its first golf outing in Brian’s hometown of Conroe, Texas. The outing’s tremendous turnout and success will allow the Foundation to benefit multiple Conroe city schools by and through the First Tee of Houston’s National School Program. Hundreds of children will be positively impacted by the Nine Core Values™ delivered by the Program! We’re looking forward to returning in the early spring of 2013.

♦ Check out the new “Library” link on our home page. The Foundation intends to update this link regularly with substantive periodicals and other source materials discussing substance abuse as distributed to us by community partners.

♦ Many thanks to our 2012 Dayton Golf Outing sponsors: Timothy R. Ippisch, CLU, ChFC, CFP, Wealth Management Advisor, Northwestern Mutual; Cox Media Group Ohio and DPL, Inc. for being the current leaders in the Clubhouse. We appreciate their continued participation in the Foundation’s mission and encourage other community partners to follow their lead. Through Compassion and Awareness a Better Tomorrow Awaits!

Welcome to 2012

The Brian Hafer Foundation enters 2012 with a firm resolve and unbending commitment to both deliver and grow its charitable mission: Through Compassion and Awareness a Better Tomorrow Awaits. Assisted by an ever-expanding roster of community and business partners, the Foundation has raised the benchmarks for its fundraising initiatives and charitable donations. Annual goals and ways you can help will be detailed in the coming months.

We are excited to officially announce our corporate partnership with The First Tee of Greater Miami Valley. Such partnership, while lending endless support locally, has also facilitated our budding relationship with the First Tee of Greater Houston. Together, our organizations intend to benefit The First Tee’s National School Program, and collectively deliver the Nine Core Values™ to local Dayton City and Conroe City schoolchildren. On July 7, 2011, The First Tee launched its initiative to reach 10 million children by 2017, and we intend for thousands of schoolchildren benefitted by our shared collaboration to count amongst that number.

This year, the Foundation intends to benefit multiple elementary schools within the Dayton Public School District ("DPS") by and through The First Tee’s National School Program. Late in 2011, Eastmont Elementary became the Foundation’s first DPS recipient. We are excited to monitor Eastmont’s progress through the Program, and observe the children’s experiences and successes. We are confident that Eastmont’s successful implementation of the Program will raise local awareness and interest in our charitable mission.

2012 will also observe the Foundation’s expansion into Conroe, Texas. For many years, Conroe was home to Brian and his family, and was the location for many, many of Brian’s successes. No discussion about Brian’s life is complete without Conroe’s inclusion. We are excited to welcome Brian’s friends, family, classmates and colleagues to the Foundation. And, we are excited to benefit Conroe City schoolchildren (some of whom no doubt have grown up listening to their daddy’s stories about Brian.)

The Foundation is pleased to announce its newest board members, Mike Greathouse and Josh Arnaud, who will lead our Conroe-based initiatives. Mike and Josh were lifelong friends of Brian, and have been friends of the Foundation since its inception. Their shared participation has fostered the Foundation’s successes, and we are humbled by their active roles.

2012 promises to be another big year for the Foundation, balanced equally by building blocks and launch pads. Check back often to see what we’re up to!

The beginnings

The Brian Hafer Foundation was organized and formed in 2010 to highlight drug and alcohol awareness and to remind individuals that abuse knows no borders and willingly permeates every social structure. “Through Compassion and Awareness a Better Tomorrow Awaits.” Following its inaugural golf outing, the Foundation officially organized and was recently designated as a not-for-profit tax-exempt entity. The Foundation endeavors to partner with like-minded organizations to promote and understand society’s reaction to drugs and alcohol and to shift its focus, and continuously researches and performs its due diligence concerning viable partnerships and affiliations

The Foundation’s mission promotes Brian’s aspirations. Brian wanted to help others battling the same addictions he faced. After his death, many people coping with their own addictions came forward and shared their stories with the Hafer family about how inspirational Brian was to their own recovery. Unfortunately, Brian was unable to help himself. But, to memorialize his aspirations and life, the Foundation continues his mission of highlighting the shocking reality of the dangers of drug and alcohol addiction.
